Douglas Budget - May 28, 1981Funeral services for Bessie Wilson Cook, 85, were held at the First Methodist Church. The Rev. Harry Randall officiated.
Mrs. Cook died Friday at her home after a short illness.
She was born Jan. 28, 1896 in Centerville, Iowa, where she lived for 12 years. In 1908 she moved to Douglas for three years then moved to Sheridan where she graduated from high school.
In 1916 she married Douglas Cook and the coupled moved to Douglas where she worked for the phone company and he was a co-owner of the Douglas Budget.
Mrs. Cook was a member of the First Methodist Church, Woodbine Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Douglas, American Legion Auxiliary and was a Gold Star Mother.
She was preceded in death by her husband and two sons and one brother.
Survivors include one son, Don Cook of Douglas; one sister, Juanita Slonaker of Phoenix, Ariz., four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Burial was in Douglas Park Cemetery with Stark-Lapham Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
