Funeral for John Cowger Held
Unknown - July 14, 1955Funeral services were held this afternoon at the Methodist church for John Cowger, 77, who died Sunday morning in Memorial hospital after suffering a heart attack June 22. Rev. H.H. Lindman of the Congregational church officiated and burial was in Douglas Park cemetery.
Mr. Cowger was born February 27, 1878, in Monticello, Ind., son of George and Mary Cowger. On December 31, 1910, he was united in marriage with Nettie Fowler in Lost Springs, Kansas. In October, 1916, they came to this community where Mr. Cowger homesteaded. They remained on their farm until 1926 when they moved to town where he operated a trucking firm until retirement in October, 1951. Mr. Cowger was very active in the Moose Lodge and held a Fellowship in the Legion of the M-Wyoming Chapter No. 99. He took office in the local and state for several years and was honored with a life membership. A few days before he suffered the fatal attack, he had helped put on the most successful state Moose lodge convention ever held. He had many friends and was held in high esteem by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Nettie; two sons, Edwin and Jack; a daughter, Velma, and five grandchildren, all of Douglas; three brothers, George of Minneapolis, Minn., and William and Oscar, who reside in Indiana.
