Unknown - September, 1964Mabel H. Copenhaver was born in Smith County, Kans. on August 26, 1885. She was the daughter of James Harvey Hammond and Sarah Jane McNealy. Mrs. Copenhaver was the fifth child of a family of ten children. She was the last surviving member of the family.
Her father came from Kansas in 1890 to homestead in Wyoming. In 1901 he moved the family to the Wagonhound Creek home. Mrs. Copenhaver was united in marriage to John D. Smith in March 21, 1904. To this union five girls were born, all of whom survive their mother. They are Maude Ryan, Douglas; Myra Loomer, Casper; Gertrude Churchill, Denver, Colo.; Joan Cundall, Glendo, and Betty Bishop, Huntley, Wyo.
Mrs. Copenhaver's mother was a charter member of the First Baptist Church of Douglas. Mrs. Copenhaver was united with the Baptist Church at an early age. She was also a charter member of the Eaastern Star Chapter at Worland. She later transferred her membership to the Woodbine Chapter in Douglas.
She also belonged to the Rebecca and Royal Neighbor lodges. She was also a member of the Friendly Neighbors Garden Club.
On October 5, 1940, she was united in marriage to Milton Copenhaver. Mr. Copenhaver preceded her in death in the spring of 1943.
Besides the five daughters she is survived by 24 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
