Douglas Budget - September 11, 1980Funeral services for Maxine Carothers, 67, of Douglas will be held at the Congregational Church on Thursday, Sept. 11 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Bob Nuhn officiating. Interment will be in Douglas Park Cemetery.
She died on Sept. 8 at home following a heart attack.
Maxine Whitaker Carothers was born April 10, 1913 in Mitchell, Nebraska. She lived there until coming to Douglas where she married George Carothers on May 28, 1939. She taught school south of Douglas for several years and then she and her husband ranched on Wagonhound Ranch for 33 years.
She was a member of the Congregational Church, Women of the Moose, Rebekahs, LaBonte Homemakers and the Converse County Cowbelles.
Survivors include her husband George; four brothers, Hazen Stone, Morrill, Nebraska; Warren Stone, Mitchell; Roger Stone of Chicago; and John Stone of Douglas; two sisters, Bernice George of Douglas and Margaret Cox of Kansas City, Missouri in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.
The family would appreciate memorials to the Congregational Church of the Heart Fund.
