Douglas Budget - July 24, 1986Funeral services for Bessie Matilda Crawford, 97, will be Thursday, July 24 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Raymond Tibbs officiating. Interment will be in the Douglas Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Crawford died Friday, July 18 at the Bonner General Hospital in Sandpoint, Idaho unexpectedly.
The daughter of James and Elizabeth Shinn Fickle, she was born Sept. 1, 1888 at Osceola, Iowa. She was reared and educated in Iowa. She married Harry Crawford April 17, 1909 at Osceola, Iowa. They farmed in Iowa prior to coming to Wyoming.
They homesteaded near Flat Top 20 miles northeast of Douglas in 1917. She moved into Douglas in the mid 1930s. She operated the Converse Hotel during the 1940s and 1950s. They sold the ranch in 1956, at which time Mr. Crawford moved into Douglas. She has spent her retirement years in Douglas. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her son, Merlyn Crawford of Douglas; daughter, Freda Pearl Thatcher of St. Maries, Id.; sister-in-law Bess Fickle of Sac City, Ia.; 13 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; and 10 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, April 13, 1986; one son, Wendell, in 1939; and one brother, Homer Fickle.
Serving as pallbearers are Keith Crawford, Tim Crawford, Frank Thatcher, Michael Thatcher, George Thatcher, and Robert Thatcher. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Glenn Morris, Walter York, Bubbs Whiting, Tom Robinson, Beef Bolln, and Red Morris.
A memorial to the Douglas Senior Citizens would be appreciated by the family.
