Douglas Budget - December 20, 1979Funeral services were held Friday October 19, 1979 for Elvin Archie (Red) Cole, 75 at the Congregational Church, with Rev. Bob Nuhn officiating.
Burial was in Douglas Park Cemetery.
Cole died Tuesday October 16, at Converse County Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
He was born November 14, 1903 at Miller, Nebraska, the son of Eugene Enos and Hattie Jane Cole.
He moved with his parents to Wyoming in 1918 and his parents homesteaded on Spring Creek near Esterbrook.
Cole was a retired rancher, having ranched in the area for many years. He was an avid horseman, having participated in the Wyoming State Fair parade since 1925, doing so only last August during Wyoming State Fair.
Mr. Cole was a member of LaPrele Farm Bureau and an associate member of Wyoming High School Rodeo Association.
On August 18, 1925 he married Cora Jane Lees at Douglas. To this union was born six children, two sons, Lyle of Douglas, Stanley of Wheatland; four daughters, Bernice Hill, Betty Shelden, Norma Huxtable, Janice Steckley, all of Douglas. He is also survived by one sister Ada Christman, Stromsburg, Neb., one brother, William Cole, Henry, Neb., 28 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six sisters, three brothers, and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Gary Huxtable, Gene Cole, Clarence Hill, Ronald Cole, Buck Shelden and Dan Martin.
