Douglas Budget - June 14, 1984Memorial services for Elmer Earl Cowell, 81, were held Tuesday, June 12, 1984 at 2:00 P.M. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Harry B. Randall, III officiating. Interment of the cremains were in the family plot at the Douglas Park Cemetery.
Mr. Cowell died Friday, June 8, 1984 at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma following a short illness.
Elmer, the son of William and Henrietta Allen Cowell was born July 28, 1902 at Grand Island, Nebraska. He moved to the Douglas area in 1920, homesteading near Alpha. He was married to Ethel Brighton for 59 years. He has been a resident of Sun City, Arizona since 1972. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was a member of the IOOF Lodge and Royal Neighbors for over 50 years.
Elmer is survived by two granddaughters, Shannon Spicer Albrecht of Oklahoma City, OK. and Sheryl Spicer Neigenfind of Eugene, Ore., and several nieces and nephews.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ethel, Nov. 2, 1983; one daughter, Mary VanDorston; and one sister, Vern.
A memorial has been established to the Abiding Memorial Fund at the First United Methodist Church in Elmer and Ethel Cowell's name.
The Converse Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
