Douglas Budget - January 23, 2002Funeral services for Robert Brooks "Buck" Collins, 73, were held Jan. 21 at Glendo Community Church with Pastor Gordon Swedberg officiating.
Interment will be at Horseshoe Cemetery near Glendo.
Mr. Collins, a lifetime Glendo resident, died Jan. 16 at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper following three months of illness.
He was born May 4, 1928, to George and Queen (Caldwell) Collins at his family's ranch near Glendo. He resided at the family ranch until the time of his death.
Mr. Collins graduated from Glendo High School in 1948. On Sept. 27, 1953, he married Peggy Jean Duff at the Methodist church in Douglas. His interests included construction equipment and farming.
The family lived in Glendo. He and his wife worked on the Glendo Dam. Mr. Collins helped build roads and telephone, power and water lines for Lone Tree Bible Ranch. He donated time and equipment to start Glendo Community Church, Glendo Senior Housing, Wheatland Bible Church and Platte County Visitor's Center in Wheatland. He built several U.S. Forest Service roads and campgrounds in the Snowy Range Area, Medicine Bow area and Glendo State Park.
He worked for Conoco Pipe Line for more than 20 years.
Mr. Collins served on the Selective Service Board for 15 years and was a member of the weed and pest board. He was a strong Democrat and loved to have conversations and coffee with anyone. He loved all sports, both local teams and the Wyoming Cowboys.
Mr. Collins is survived by his wife Peggy of Glendo; two beloved sons, Jay and wife Kathy Collins and Larry and wife Chris Collins, all of Glendo; granddaughters Cally and Lauren Collins and grandson Cale Robert Collins, all of Glendo; sisters Virginia Jenkins of Ventura, Calif., and Una Ann Lee of Sacramento, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Charles, Bill, Woodrow, Fay, Henry, Crip and J.B.; and sister Margaret.
Serving as pallbearers were Fred Nance, Gerald Strahmann, Bob Barkdoll, Jim Skeen, John Bey, Ben Vaughn and Jon Tooley. Honorary pallbearers were Casey Collins, Kenny Collins, Woody Collins, Dave Collins, John Collins, Phillip Collins, Gary Nance, Lewis Archie, Ron Cole, Leo Sack and Duane Meredith.
Memorials to Glendo Community Church, P.O. Box 36, Glendo 82213, would be appreciated by the family.
Converse Funeral Chapel of Douglas was in charge of arrangements.
