Clelland, Lydia Olive (Guthrie) (September 13, 1853 - January 1, 1925)
Mrs. L.W. Clelland Taken in
Douglas Budget - January 8, 1925Mrs. Lydia Olive Clelland, beloved resident of this county for over forty years, passed away at the Douglas hospital last Thursday evening. Death was caused by pneumonia, with which she was attacked a week previous.
Lydia Olive Guthrie was a native of Ohio, being born at Marion September 17, 1853. She was married in that city to Lester W. Clelland on February 25, 1872. The young couple made that city their home for ten years coming to the Territory of Wyoming in 1882, first locating in Cheyenne. Later they came to this county, their ranch on the Platte north of Douglas, including the land of old Fort Fetterman, being one of the best in this section. For many years they made their home in Douglas, Mr. Clelland serving the people many years in the offices of treasurer and county clerk.
Mrs. Clelland had during her long residence here won and held the affectionate regard of all who came in contact with her. Ever young in spirit, her cheerful, kindly greeting will be missed.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Saturday afternoon, the church being filled to capacity by the friends who wished to pay the final tribute to her memory.
The services were conducted by the pastor, Rev. R.M. Jones. Burial was in Douglas cemetery, beside the body of her husband.
Of the near relatives who came from out-of-town to attend the funeral were W.E. Guthrie, brother, and Mrs. Guthrie of Bridgeport, Nebr.; Mrs. J.B. Russell, sister, of Savannah, Mo.; P.E. Guthrie, brother, Broken Bow, Nebr.
