Funeral services for Edwin Fowler Cowger, 86, were Oct. 31 at Converse Funeral Chapel.

The Rev. Pat Montgomery of Presbyterian Church of Cody officiated and Dave Edwards was the eulogist. Interment was in Douglas Park Cemetery. Following the ceremony a reception was held at LaBonte Hotel.

Mr. Cowger died Oct. 28 at Memorial Hospital of Converse County. He was born Jan. 3, 1912, in Lost Springs, Kans., to John and Nettie(Fowler)Cowger. At age 5, he along with his parents and grandparents arrived in Douglas on Halloween 1916. They moved to their homestead north of Douglas in 1917 where they lived until 1926. They then moved into Douglas in order for Ed to attend high school.

He graduated from Converse County High School in 1930. He worked in the grocery industry in Douglas, Lead, S.D., and Chickasha, Okla. He worked for Mountain States Power and Pacific Power and Light for 40 years. He retired from Pacific Power and Light in 1973.

On April 18, 1938, Mr. Cowger married Maxine Silver. At the time of his death he was residing at the LaBonte Hotel in Douglas, where he was known for his outgoing personality and positive attitude about life.

He belonged to the Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge, Lions Club and Knights of the Silver Spruce Club. He also belonged to the Pacific Power and Light Retiree Association. He was an active volunteer in Douglas and Glendo. He also belonged to the National Guard for many years.

He is survived by his sister Velma Reeves of Sheridan; his children and their families, who include; Vicki and Lynn Haines of Casper and their children Vicki Lynn and Hob Pirayesh and children Katie and Erick of California and Debbie Haines of Ariz.; Jeff and Jan Cowger and chldren Matthew and Carrie Cowger of Gilbert, Ariz., Judie and Ron Robben and children Brent and Lynn Robben of Edgewater, Colo., Stephanie and Dustin Maiers of Lakewood, Colo., Scott Robben of Lakewood; and John and Susan Cowger and sons Ryan and Adam Cowger of Cody.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Maxine Silver Cowger on Dec. 27, 1995; and one brother, John E. "Jack" Cowger on Nov. 13, 1996.

Pallbearers were Rob Robben, Lynn Haines, Scott Robben, Brent Robben, Dustin Maiers and Dave Edwards. Honorary pallbearers were Ryan Cowger, Adam Cowger, Matt Cowger and Bill Sack.

Memorial to the American Cancer Society in care of Converse County Bank, P.O. Box 689, Douglas would be appreciated by the family.

Converse Funeral Chapel of Douglas was in charge of arrangements.
