Douglas Budget - August 2, 1979Services for Rita Kaye Cross, 34, were held Sunday, July 29, 2 p.m. at St. James Church in Douglas with Father Calibraro and Rev. Robert Nuhn officiating.
Interment was in the Douglas Cemetery.
Rita died Wednesday, July 25, at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, Tex.
Mrs. Cross was born Dec. 3, 1944, in Wilson, Kans. to John and Bessie Lilak. She graduated Cum Laude from Kansas State University with a Home Economics degree in foods and nutrition. She later attended Colorado State University, for graduate work.
In October 1969, she wed Richard Cross, of Douglas. They met in Newton, Kans. where Rita was the Home Demonstration Agent. They made their home in the Douglas area, on the Boot Ranch.
Rita had a zest for life, and above all loved people. She was Past President of the Converse County Cowbelles, the Douglas Catholic Women, Beta Sigma Phi, as well as being actively involved in many local and state organizations. She was an IFYE student in Holland in 1967.
Her greatest love in life were her two surviving children, Jamie, 5 and Shane, 3. She is also survived by her husband, Richard, mother, Bessie Lilak, brothers, Larry and Keith Lilak and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Dennis Daly, Rick Rutledge, Jim Monroe, Al Pierce, Bill DeRycke, and Mel Nelson. Honorary pallbearers were Bob Upton, George Ortiz, Steve Meredith, George Stepan, Bill Leman, Bud Horr, Jack Sullivan, Conrad Herrera, Jim Ressick, John Needham, John Werner, Ben Levasseur, and Sam Peppiat, from Houston, Texas.
She had a long courageous battle against cancer. Her hope and inspiration always came from those who had fought the battle and won.
Arrangements for the funeral were made by Stark-Lapham Funeral Home.
Memorials to the Blue Envelope Health Fund in Casper would be appreciated by the family.
