Douglas Budget - February 27, 2002Funeral services for LeRoy B. Cooper, 87, were held Feb. 23 at Christ Episcopal Church with Rev. Marion Canterbury officiating.
Interment was at Douglas Park Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites by Ashlar Masonic Lodge #16 AF & AM.
Mr. Cooper died Feb. 20 at Michael Manor.
He was born March 26, 1914, in Scottsbluff, Neb., to Ray and Ethel (Morton) Cooper. He was reared and educated in Esterbrook, attending rural grade school at Esterbrook. He graduated from Douglas High School. He worked on the family ranch for 10 years with Union Pacific Railroad as a fireman, and for Continental Pipe Line Company in Douglas. After that he returned to the ranch. He entered car sales, selling Chevrolet vehicles. In 1976, he retired to Esterbrook.
He married Carol Delight (Candy) Taylor Sept. 29, 1938, in Fort Collins.
Mr. Cooper was a member of the Ashlar Masonic Lodge #16 AF & AM. He enjoyed doing various things in Esterbrook and liked playing poker.
He is survived by his son William Taylor, M.D., of Indianapolis; grandchildren Paul Taylor of Fort Collins, Teresa Taylor of Detroit, Kathleen Chadid of Indianapolis and Bill Taylor of Philadelphia; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Cooper was preceded in death by his parents and his wife on July 17, 1996.
Pallbearers were Paul Taylor, Bill Taylor, Zach Taylor, Ryan DeGeorge, Kao Dolph and Steve Chadwick. Memorials to Ascension Episcopal Church, 411 Center St., Douglas, would be be appreciated by the family.
Converse Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
