Douglas Budget - October 30, 1980Funeral services were held Oct. 27 at the Methodist Church in Douglas for John H. Clemens, 62. He died on Oct. 24 at the Natrona County Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Interment was in Valley View Cemetery in Torrington.
He was born on March 3, 1918 in Leadville, Colorado and had lived in Douglas for the past 20 years where he owned and operated the firm of John H. Clemens Accounting. He graduated from the University of Colorado prior to moving to Douglas.
Mr. Clemens was married to Gretchen Scheerer on Sept. 7, 1943 in Chicago, Illinois. He served overseas during World War II with the 97th Bomb Group in England and North Africa and with the Headquarters 3rd Army Air Force in Tampa, Florida.
He was a member of the First Methodist Church, National Society of Public Accountants, Douglas Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis, American Legion, Lions Club, Moose Club and Masonic Lodge 29.
Survivors include his wife Gretchen of Douglas; son Stephen, Douglas; two daughters, Joyce Fogelberg, Sacramento, California and Marilyn Clemens of Wheatland; stepmother, Myrtle Clemens of Torrington; two sisters, Elizabeth Clemens, Torrington and Louise Kuxhausen of Mitchell, Nebraska; and two grandchildren.
The family would appreciate memorials to the building fund of the United Methodist Church in Douglas or to the American Heart Fund.
