Douglas Budget - March 10, 2004Funeral liturgy for Kathleen H. Caldwell, 84, will be held at 10 a.m. March 11 at St. James Catholic Church in Douglas, with Fr. Cliff Jacobsen as celebrant.
The Vigil for the Deceased will be held at 7 p.m. March 10 at Gorman Funeral Homes-Converse Chapel in Douglas. Interment will be at Douglas Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Caldwell died March 5, 2004, at her son's home in Cheyenne, in the care of United Medical Center Hospice.
She was born March 21, 1919, in O'Briens Bridge, County Limerick, Ireland, to Martin and Mary (Kennaugh)Hogan. She was reared and educated in O'Briens Bridge. She moved to England during World War II, then returned to Ireland to care for her father.
In 1949 she came to the United States and lived in Princeton, N.J., working as a children's maid. She briefly lived in New York, then in Ellicott City, Md., working for the Carroll family.
On Oct. 16, 1954, she married James Moon Caldwell in Bethesda, Md. They moved to Glenrock in 1956 and to Douglas in 1959. She was a homemaker, and after Mr. Caldwell was elected Converse County Sheriff, she assisted him in running the sheriff's office. She worked for several years at Douglas Day Care, and she dearly loved being with children.
She was a member of St. James Catholic Church. She enjoyed praying her rosary, writing letters and spending time with her grandchildren and friends.
She is survived by her children Phoebe and husband Rick Underwood of Douglas and Phillip Caldwell of Cheyenne; stepson James S. Caldwell of Westminster, Md.; grandchildren Garth and Brogan Underwood of Douglas; and numerous nieces and nephews in the United States and Ireland.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jim on March 17, 1993; three sisters; and a brother.
Pallbearers will be Scott Kreycik, Shane Sconce, Troy Scott, Blake Scott, Chad Underwood and Steve Dermer. Honorary pallbearers will be all of the people she knew and loved.
A memorial to St. James Catholic Church, 302 South Fifth St., Douglas 82633, or to United Medical Center Hospice, 2600 East 18th St., Cheyenne 82001, would be appreciated by the family.
