Douglas Budget - April 27, 1994Funeral services for Esther Adelaine Curtis, 92, were held April 21, at the Converse Funeral Chapel in Douglas, with Father J. Leventis of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church officiating. Interment was in the Douglas Park Cemetery in Douglas with Samuel Mares American Legion Post No.8 conducting military graveside rites.
Mrs. Curtis, a resident of Douglas, died Monday, April 18, 1994, at the Converse County Memorial Hospital in Douglas.
She was born June 8, 1901, the daughter of William S. and Sarah A. (Ormsbee) Gailey in Philadelphia, Pa. She served in the United States Navy from Aug. 2, 1918, to Jan. 8, 1919.
Esther was married to Basil D. Curtis in Media, Pa. on March 21, 1928. Mrs. Curtis was a resident of Douglas for the past eleven years.
She is survived by her daughter, Demi Cross of Douglas; son Theron Hamlin of Saint Petersburg, Fla.; granddaughter Dianne Bitzes; and great-granddaughter, Zoe Bitzes both of Omaha, Neb.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents; and husband Basil D. Curtis on Sept. 5, 1984.
Serving as pallbearers were Greg Richendifer, Richard Jackson, Richard Cross, Bill Leman, John Ralph Sullivan and Gene McComb.
Memorials may be sent to the choice of donor and would be appreciated by the family.
Converse Funeral Chapel of Douglas was in charge of the arrangements.
