Douglas Budget - September 30, 1998Funeral liturgy for Kathryn Mae Carrethers, 82, will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, at St. James Catholic Church in Douglas with Father Ralph Tolkin as celebrant.
Vigil for the deceased will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, at Converse Funeral Chapel with Jenny Needham as leader. Interment will be at Douglas Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Carrethers died Friday, Sept. 25, at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper.
She was born May 21, 1916, in Douglas to Vinson Samuel and Hettie (Sleight) Merritt. She was reared and educated in Douglas, graduating from Douglas High School, then attending college for three years.
Her career encompassed being Justice of the Peace in Douglas from June 3, 1969, to April 1, 1978, and working for the ASCS USD office for many years. The past few years, Mrs. Carrethers was a senior volunteer with Douglas Police Department.
She was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Douglas Civic Club, American Legion Auxiliary and Douglas Senior Citizens Center. She enjoyed crocheting, playing bridge and horseback riding.
Mrs. Carrethers is survived by her son Vincon E. "Rusty" Carrethers and his wife Mary Lou of Fountain, Colo.; sister Ruth Lore of Vista, Calif.; grandsons Malik J. and wife Nancy Ann Carrethers and Yusef B. Carrethers, both of Fountain; great-grandson Keegan Carrethers of Fountain; niece Peggy Snell and children of Susanville, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
