Douglas Budget - August 18, 1999Funeral services for James A. Cannon were Friday, Aug. 6, at El Camino Mortuary Chapel in Sand Diego, Calif.
Mr. Cannon died at his home in San Diego on Aug. 3. Interment was held at Arlington West, El Camino Memorial Park in San Diego.
Mr. Cannon was born in Douglas on Oct. 9, 1918, to Roberta Lee (Edwards) and Fredrick Cannon. as a young man he worked with his father, a contractor, and graduated from Douglas High School in 1936.
He worked for Mountain State Power Company for a time and enlisted in the military service during World War II. He served overseas, where he met Bette A. Ripple, a military nurse. They married in 1944 and continued their military service for some time.
After leaving the military service, they moved to California to make San Diego their home.
Mr. Cannon worked as an office manager for the Civil Service until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by wife Bette of San Diego; infant brother Robert Cannon; and sister Freda Wulff of Douglas. He is survived by sisters Betty Smith of Douglas and Rita Sipperly and Kathryn Johnson, both of San Diego, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Among his hobbies he enjoyed outdoor activities, traveling, his dogs, the ocean, friends and family. During his lifetie he made numerous trips back to Douglas where he visited Laramie Peak, the Esterbrook area and childhood "buddies."
El Camino Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.
