Douglas Budget - March 14, 2001Services for Dorothy Cowardin, 79, will be held at 11 a.m. March 15 at Glendo Community Church in Glendo.
Mrs. Cowardin died March 9 at Platte County Memorial Hospital. She was born June 8, 1921, in Savannah, Mo., to Cleo Allen and Cora (Wallace) Williamson. She grew up in Savannah and graduated from high school in Savannah. She married Albert Cowardin on Sept. 12, 1940, at the Methodist church in Oregon, Mo. The couple lived in Chicago before moving to Wyoming in 1942.
Mrs. Cowardin did 12 years of volunteer work in the Mills school, and was one of the first trained to start the children's throat culture program.
The family moved to Glendo in 1969. Mrs. Cowardin enjoyed doing volunteer work for the community church. She also enjoyed arranging for weekly ministers, visiting other area churches, Bible study classes and the friendships there, crocheting, reading and spending time at the Glendo library.
She is survived by her son Allen and wife Judy of Glendo; daughter Peggy and husband Bob Rhoades of Brawley, Calif.; a granddaughter; four grandsons; two great-grandsons; a great granddaughter; several nieces and nephews; and a special niece, Sue Armstrong.
She was preceded in death by her brothers John, Bud and Bob Williamson; sisters Elizabeth Bryant, Lucille Trumbler and Evelyn Kirby; her husband; her parents; an infant son; and an infant daughter, April Jean.
Memorials to the Glendo Community Church, care of Peggy Collins, Glendo, 82213, would be appreciated by the family.
