Douglas Budget - April 17, 2002Graveside services and interment for John Henry Clarke, 86, were held April 13 at Douglas Park Cemetery with Rev. Rodney Saunders of First United Methodist Church officiating.
Mr. Clarke, a Douglas resident, died April 9 at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper.
He was born Jan. 12, 1916, in Gering, Neb. He was reared and educated in Gering and graduated from high school in Grand Island, Neb. He worked on farms with cattle and horses following graduation.
On Sept. 28, 1936, he married Drusilla Bessert in Casper at the Methodist church. Mr. Clarke served in the U.S. Army from Feb. 24, 1944, to Nov. 13, 1945, as an overseas field lineman.
The couple lived in Casper until 1963. They then moved to Buffalo, where Mr. Clarke worked as a finish carpenter until retiring to Douglas in 1978.
Mr. Clarke enjoyed traveling, spending winters in Arizona, fishing, hunting, gardening, flowers, crafts, walking along the river and spending time with his family. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Methodist church.
He is survived by his wife Drusilla of Douglas; children Don Clarke and wife Janet of Houston, Texas, and Nadine Gross and husband Ken of Buffalo; grandchildren Steven Gray and Rhonda Money of Buffalo and Penney Brutlag of Sheridan; step-granddaughter Heather Gross of Laramie; three great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers were Steve Gray, Chad Brutlag, Kerry Money, Aaron Money, Ryan Money and Ken Gross.
Memorials to the Douglas Senior Citizens Center, P.O. Box 192, Douglas, would be appreciated by the family.
Converse Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
