Cantan, Willie (Unknown - November 9, 1904)

Fatal Shooting Affray

Bill Barlows Budget - November 9, 1904

As a regul of a quarrel between four drunken Mexicans employed at the Muddy mine, occurring on the night of the 3d, Willie Cantan was buried in the Douglas cemetery on Sunday, and Reys Ciauiros is in jail here charged ostensibly with robbery but in reality with murder. Cantan was shot through the lower part of the body and died the next day - the nature of his wound being such that nothing could be done for him. Ciauiros was given a hearing before Judge Daniels Monday; but his companions united in declaring that it was an accident, and it is possible that if they stick to their story nothing ca be done with the murderer, although circumstances seem to indicate that the killing was the result of a drunken quarrel.
