Douglas Budget - October 6, 2010Funeral liturgy for John Michael Cross, Sr., 67, was held Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, at Saint James Catholic Church in Douglas with Father John Savio as the Celebrant. A Vigil for the Deceased was held Sept. 30, 2010, at Gorman Funeral Homes - Converse Chapel in Douglas. Inurnment will be at Douglas Park Cemetery.
John Michael died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2010, at Banner Health Community Hospital in Torrington.
He was born June 9, 1943, in Douglas, the son of George Harry and Mary Amelia (Ryan) Cross Jr.
He was raised on the Bedtick Ranch, southwest of Douglas, which was owned by the Cross family. He received his education in the Douglas school system. He was a master diesel mechanic and worked for major construction companies in Wyoming. He was married to Donna Ireton, and to this union three children were born. He and Donna were divorced, and he married Irma Pardo, to which a daughter was born. They later divorced. he was a member and rode with the Pony Express in the early 1960s.
In 1948 he was the youngest Wyoming Stockgrower in attendance at the Denver Stock Show.
He enjoyed camping, the outdoor lifestyle, and he collected catapillar toys.
He is survived by his daughters Dawn Michelle (Roger) Hiebert and Allegra (Jake) Wagner all of Douglas; siblings George H. (Susanne) Cross III of Douglas, James Roderick Cross of Denver, and Mary Julia (Mike) Wilson of Douglas; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, George, on Nov. 3, 1970; his mother, Mary, on Oct. 4, 2008; and sons Roderick E. Cross, on May 6, 1977, and John M. Cross Jr., on Oct. 14, 2002.
Serving as pallbearers were Roger Hiebert, Travis Hiebert, Rod Cross and Jake Wagner.
Gorman Funeral Homes - Converse Chapel of Douglas was in charge of the arrangements.
