Ronald Dean Clay died Aug. 26 in Ronan, Mont., at the age of 60 after a short battle with cancer. He was born March 29, 1947, in Anaconda, Mont., to Della (McDonald). He grew up and attended schools in Western Montana.

In 1968 he married Kelly Vollmers. In 1980 Ron moved his family to Douglas where he drove truck for Menter Sand and Gravel. After divorcing, Ron went back to Ronan where he helped his parents manage the family business. In 1989 Ron married Ester Kuntz. Ron always had a smile and could bring a smile to the face of just about anyone. He has a special spot in his heart for children, and children were drawn to him. Ron loved the outdoors, especially working in the yard, hunting, fishing and camping. He was also a great pool and dart player and he was a champion lawn mower racer.

Ron is survived by his wife Ester of Pablo, Mont.; his children Sally (Steve) Oban and Shawn (Tammy) VonWald all of Douglas, Rhonda (Shaun) Clay of Ukiah, Calif., Arlene (Gary) Spang of Pablo, Phil Kuntz and Alvin Kuntz of Spokane, Wash.; sisters Velma (Henry) Kuntz of Ronan, Bonnie Clay of Gillette; brothers, Lloyd (Rose) Young of Great Falls, Mont., David Compton, Ray (Linda) Compton of Gillette, Arnold (Donna) Comptom of Gillette, and Rick (Sue) Clay of Kalispell, Mont.; brothers-in-law Phil (Carol) Kuntz of Pablo, Ralph (Shirley) Kuntz of Superior, Mont.; sisters-in-law Pat Clay of Kalispell, Mont., Shirley Parker of Polson, Mont., and Leona Weaver of Spokane; 19 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Della Denney; brothers Bobby Clay, Roger Clay, Kenny Clay, Danny Clay; grandmother Marie (Granny Lou) Woosley, niece Candy Lynn Compton, grandson Dusty Sang and great-nephew Jeremy Hathaway.

At Ron's wishes there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society or a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated.
