Douglas Budget - March 14, 2007Ruth Ellen Copeland, 84, of Worland died March 5, 2007, at Worland Healthcare and Rehab Center in Worland.
She was born on Jan. 9, 1923, at Danville, Ill., to Leslie W. and Ruby Delila (Keefer) King. As a small child she moved to Los Angeles, where she was raised and graduated from high school in 1941.
On April 1, 1942, she married Gale Burnham in Los Angeles. The family moved to Lusk in 1946. He preceded her in death in 1960. Ruth then married George D. "Cope" Copeland at Lusk in 1967.
She and Cope then moved to Kuwait for five years. They returned to the USA and moved to Worland 1972. Cope died in 1986.
Mrs. Copeland was an active member of the Worland DOES, for which she held most offices, and was a past state president of the Wyoming DOES. She also was a member of the Eagle's Auxiliary, V.F.W. Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary.
She enjoyed playing darts and was an avid bowler, for which she had won many trophies.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, step-daughter, Mary Lou Bower and sisters Helen and Naomi.
Mrs. Copeland is survived by her children Susanne (Jim) Cross of Douglas, Dana (J.D.) Vineyard of Wheatland, Janice (Sam) Fleet of Shawnee, Kan., and Jon (Jan) Burnham of Douglasville, Ga.; sister Margaret Passe of Venice, Calif.; stepson Butch Copeland; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held March 8 at the Veile Mortuary Chapel in Worland with Rev. Grover Briggs officiating. Cremation followed the service with the ashes to be scattered at a later date.
Memorials may be made in her name to Worland Healthcare and Rehab Center; to the Alzheimer's Affiliation of Wyoming, P.O. Box 1493, Casper, 82602; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
