Douglas Budget - December 30, 1998Arthur 'Art' Anderson Clausen, 58, of The Dalles, Ore., died in Yuma, Ariz., Dec. 11.
He was born May 3, 1935, in Douglas, the youngest of seven children of Hanspete and Nellie Matilda (Anderson) Clausen. He grew up in Douglas, then served in the Army from 1954-57.
He married Mary Lou Clapham Feb. 9, 1954, in Douglas. They moved to the The Dalles area in February 1957.
Mr. Clausen worked several jobs, including service station attendant, then started with Harvey Aluminum where he worked until his retirement in 1982.
He owned and operated the Circle C restaurant with Mary Lou from the late 1970s to 1992. Mary Lou preceded him in death in June 1993. He attended Gateway Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Eagles, Moose, Elks, VFW and American Legion.
He enjoyed traveling, fishing and reading.
He is survived by his wife, Ann (Smith) Clausen, whom he married Aug. 23, 1998, in Lexington, Ohio; his children and their spouses, Rick and Kathy Clausen and Debra and Doug Crawford, all of The Dalles, and Daniel and Karen Clausen of Troutdale, Ore.; stepchildren Frank Smith and Kathy Milligan, both the Mansfield, Ohio, Nedra Schneider and Ron Ernest, both of Lexington, and Dave and Judy Smith of Cardington, Ohio; grandchildren Nicholas and Adam Crawford of The Dalles, and Lindsey Clausen of Troutdale; step-grandchildren Marissa Quinata of The Dalles, Justin and Petey Smith of Galion, Ohio, Matt Ryan and Michael Schneider of Lexington, Brody and Josh Smith of Cardington, and his siblings Jim Clausen of Douglas, Ester Schmoor of Casper and Marie Jones of Bucyrus, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Lou; his daughter, Tracy Marie in 1965; brothers Francis and Newton; and sister Clara.
Entombment was at The Dalles 1OOF Memorial Mausoleum.
