WALTER COX BURIED IN

CITY THURSDAY

Douglas Enterprise - January 1, 1924

Funeral services over the remains of Walter Cox were held from the Hofmann chapel last Thursday afternoon, interment being in the Douglas cemetery. The parents of the dead man and a brother were among those here from out of town to attend the services.

Cox was killed a week ago Saturday night in a house of ill fame at Clayton when he attempted to hold up a gang of laborers fro the near by Burlington bridge. Cox walked into the room where the men were sitting, poked a gun at them and ordered them to hold up their hands. Witnesses stated that Cox, in taking a watch from one of the men, dropped it on the floor and when he stooped to pick it up one of his victims drew a revolver and fired seven shots into his body.

A hearing was held Wednesday afternoon here before Justice of the Peace H.M. Arnold who released the accused killer on the strength of the evidence showing that he had shot in self defense. The coroner's inquest was also held Wednesday.
