Cantu, Wife of Diomicio (Unknown - July 4, 1951)

WOMAN FALLS TO DEATH AT

AYRES PARK

Douglas Enterprise - July 10, 1951

A Casper woman Wednesday plunged to her death from the arch of Ayres Natural bridge.

Victim of the accident was Mrs. Diomicio Cantu. With other members of her picnic party she was climbing along the arch.

As early as can be determined, Mrs. Cantu was proceeding along the path at the peak of the arch when she slipped and fell, plunging 35 feet to the ground below. According to one report, she attempted to jump from one rock to another.

Fourth of July picnickers were horrified at what may be the first fatality at Converse county's scenic wonder. Witnesses reported a number of screams when Mrs. Cantu fell but it appeared that the victim herself uttered no outcry.

She never regained consciousness and may have been killed instantly.

The body was removed to the Stark mortuary and was taken from there to the Bustard funeral home in Casper where funeral services were conducted.
