Douglas Budget - December 31, 2003Funeral services for Florence A. Blackburn, 97, were held Dec. 30 at Gorman Funeral Home - Converse Chapel in Douglas, with Pastor Raymond Tibbs officiating. Interment was in Glenrock Cemetery.
Mrs. Blackburn died Dec. 24, 2003, at Memorial Hospital of Converse County in Douglas.
She was born Sept. 12, 1906, in Rochelle, Ill., to William Carl and Matilda(Wendt)Reinke. She was reared and educated in Rochelle.
On July 11, 1922, she married Harold Blackburn in Rochelle. Mr. Blackburn first came to Wyoming in 1922, and returned in 1926.
Mrs. Blackburn and their two children to Wyoming in December 1926.
They resided on the Allen Cattle Company ranch near Cheyenne, and in 1929 they moved to Glenrock and resided at the Glenrock Sheep Company ranch.
In 1940 they settled in the LaPrele community where they farmed and ranched for themselves.
Mrs. Blackburn was active in LaPrele Homemakers Club. She enjoyed painting, crafts, fishing, playing cards, especially pinochle, and quilting.
She is survived by five children, Georgia Monger of Casper, Robert Blackburn of Douglas, Lucille Stock of Douglas, Patricia Sanders of Eureka, Mont., and James Blackburn of Glenrock; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harold in 1980; sons Glen and Jerry Blackburn; a sister; a brother; a half-sister; a half-brother; a grandson; two great-granddaughters; one great-great-granddaughter.
Pallbearers were George Huffman, Art Sanders, Carol Stock, Dick Stock, Martin Blackburn, Glen Blackburn, Ronald Blackburn, Jason Blackburn, Donald Blackburn and Britt Blackburn.
A memorial to the Douglas Senior Citizens Center, P.O. Box 192, Douglas, or to a charity of the donor's choice, would be appreciated by the family.
Gorman Funeral Home-Converse Chapel of Douglas was in charge of the arrangements.
