CLAUD DAWES DIES QUIETLY ON

MONDAY

Claud E. Dawes, 85, a pioneer of early Wyoming days, passed away at his home at 10:45 a.m. Monday. Death came after a long illness.

He was born in Linerville, Iowa, on October 4, 1868, the son of Wallace Edward and Sarah Elizabeth Dawes.

He came to the west in 1884 and with the exception of a few years in Nebraska and Kansas, devoted his interests to business and ranching in Wyoming.

He was married to Clara Hessie March 29, 1899. To this union were born five children. The youngest son, Claud E. Dawes, Jr., preceded his father in death on May 17, 1942.

The family moved to Douglas in 1910.

A family gathering and open house celebrated the golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Dawes five years ago.

Surviving are his wife, Clara; three sons, Hess of Hayes Center, Neb.; James of Douglas and William of Edgemont, S.D.; a daughter, Mary, of Twin Falls, Idaho; twelve grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; a brother, Pete of Alliance, Neb., and a sister, Esther, of Antioch, Neb.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Stark funeral chapel at 2 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday) by Rev. R.L. Morrell. Jack Gillespie will provide the music.
