Dalton, Walter J. (September 21, 1887 - April 29, 1961)

Walter J. Dalton was born September 21, 1887 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Walter F. and Mary L. Dalton. He passed away April 29, 1961 at St. Petersburg, Florida where he and his wife were spending the winter. Funeral services were held in Douglas May 8 at Christ Episcopal Church with the Rev. J.B. Batten officiating. Masonic graveside services were conducted at Douglas Park Cemetery.

Mr. Dalton came to Douglas about 1908 and later operated a general store known as W.J. Dalton Co. at 214 Center, where Thompson Jewelry is now located. He was united in marriage to Claudia Sims in Chicago in 1911.

Mr. Dalton served a term in the State legislature as representative from Converse County, and later went to Cheyenne where he was appointed as Secretary of the Liquor Control. He also served as a member of the State Board of Equalization in the capitol city.

The Daltons have retained their residence in Cheyenne for a number of years, spending the winter months in St. Petersburg, Florida, since 1940, and returning to Cheyenne and Douglas for the rest of the year.

Mrs. Dalton is the sister of Albert and Chester Sims of Douglas, and Victoria Pritchard of Cleveland, Ohio.

Besides his wife, Mr. Dalton is survived by two brothers, Raymond J. Dalton of La Grange, Ill., and Harold J. Dalton of Chicago; and a sister, Mrs. Roy Brown of Chicago.

Pall bearers were Eddie Russell, Emil Rohlff, Sam Amspoker, T.U. Slonaker, Leonard Shaw, Bill Gentle, and Mort Peters.
