PIONEER RESIDENT OF DOUGLAS DIES
Douglas Enterprise - August 5, 1959Mrs. Florence Daniels, 81, who spent more than half a century as a resident of Douglas, died quietly at 7:50 o'clock this Wednesday morning at Converse County Memorial Hospital.
She had been in failing health for the past four years.
She was born in Pocahontas county, Iowa, January 8, 1872, one of seven children.
In her early life she taught school, coming to Douglas about 1900 to establish a dress shop. She was married to Hiram R. Daniels, December 8, 1900, three children being born to this union.
Her husband preceded her in death in 1940.
Mrs. Daniels was a member of the Congregational church during her lifetime in Douglas and was active in the Sunday school and ladies circle of that church. She was a member of Woodbine chapter, Order of Eastern Star, and a past matron of the order.
Surviving are two sons, T.C. Daniels of Douglas and Leslie Daniels of the Colorado A. & M. faculty at Ft. Collins, Colo.; two sisters, Mrs. Bernice Curtis of Wedron, Ill., and Mrs. Mande Barthold of Grand Plain, Tex., four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a number of nephews and nieces. Her son, Hiram Daniels, Jr. died in 1927.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete but services are planned tentatively at the Congregational church Friday afternoon.
