Unknown - October, 1959Services for Thomas W. DeWitt were held at the Stark Chapel in Douglas, Monday, Oct. 26, at 2:00 p.m., with the Rev. Silas McGehee officiating, and burial was in the Douglas Park Cemetery.
Mr. DeWitt passed away at his home near Douglas Thursday morning at 2:00 a.m. at the age of 71 years, 4 months and 22 days. He was born in Springview, Nebraska in 1888, where he lived until 1918. Leaving Nebraska, he moved to Pineridge Reservation in South Dakota. In 1926, he moved to Douglas where he resided for 33 years, working on construction until his illness in 1951. He had been engaged in the restaurant business for the past four years.
He was united in marriage to Eenie Humphrey on March 15, 1911. To this union were born 3 daughters, Ruth Widick, Elsie Rohrer, and Maxine Booth, all of Douglas.
Survivors include his wife, Eenie DeWitt, three daughters, Ruth Widick, Elsie Rohrer, and Maxine Booth, all of Douglas; 4 sisters, Effie Kees of Harlan, Ia.; Hulda Chapin, and Leona Tuton, both of Springview, Neb., and Elsie Horton of St. Helens, Oregon; and one brother, Paul DeWitt, of Casper; 19 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and scores of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Bob Hall, Al Nauman, Cecil Hammond, Emil Rohlff, George McGehee, and Dale Meeham.
