Unknown - September, 1961Samuel Mills Dewey, son of Nathaniel Wright and Harriet Pinneo Dewey, was born January 28, 1872, at Toulon, Ill.
In March, 1885, the family moved to Fairmont, Neb.
February 24, 1904, he was united in marriage to Maude Swartz, continuing to farm south of Fairmont where their daughter, Dorothy, was born.
In 1908, the family moved to Douglas, but in 1916 they moved back to Fairmont to be near his aged mother. He and his wife made a happy vacation home for his orphaned niece and nephews.
Later they moved to Omaha where he clerked in a hotel and his wife worked in the welfare department.
After his wife's death in 1953 he was unable to work returned to Fairmont to be with his sister.
In November, 1956, he and his sister moved to the Fairmont Nursing Home which was his home until taken to the Fillmore County hospital in Geneva where he passed away Sept. 8, 1961, at the age of 89 years, 7 months and 10 days. Funeral and burial was in Fairmont Sept. 11.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Harold Lanich, Casper; a granddaughter, Mrs. B.R. Doughten, St. Paul, Minn., and a sister, Carrie E. Dewey, Fairmont, Neb.
