Funeral services for Shayne R. DeGaugh, 40, of London, Texas, were held Nov. 7 at the London Baptist Church with Rev. Thomas Jeffers officiating.

Burial followed in Long Mountain Cemetery.

Mr. DeGaugh died at his home.

Pallbearers were Shawn DeGaugh, Dalen McKenzie, Jeff Wass, Henry Pina, John Crenwelge and Edward Gonzales. Honorary pallbearers were Richard DeGrass, Gene Glassburn, Gary Goswick, Leonard Hight, Larry Harbaugh and Daleray Madewell.

Mr. DeGaugh was born Oct. 5, 1964, in Sidney, Neb., the oldest son of Bobby and Joyce DeGaugh. He graduated in 1981 from Douglas High School and attended college at the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette, La. As a young man he worked in his father's oil field wildcat operation, exploring, drilling and servicing oil wells in Wyoming and South Dakota. He then worked throughout the United States and eventually even in Siberia.

On Aug. 6, 1997, Mr. DeGaugh was paralyzed at the Cordero mine in Wyoming. He handled the situation with the heart of a lion. He fought the good fight, finished the course and kept his faith through insurmountable odds.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Mr. DeGaugh is survived by his mother; daughters Andria Gonzales of London, Haylei and Jillian DeGaugh of Douglas and Hope DeGaugh of Shoshoni; brother Shawn DeGaugh of Butte, Mont.; sisters Kelli Edison of London and Gina Goswick of Midland, Texas; grandsons Shea and Nicolas Gonzales of London; and his godparents, Janelle and Larry Harbaugh and Daleray Madewell.
