Douglas Budget - April, 2004Cornelius P. (Neil) Dey, 79, of Douglas, died April 6 at the Fort Meade Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Sturgis, S.D.
Mr. Dey was born Dec. 9, 1924, in Chugwater to Andrew and Minnie (Schwartz) Dey.
He enlisted in the Marine Corp on April 14, 1942, and was honorably discharged on April 13, 1946.
Mr. Dey married Mona Hatfield on Feb. 7, 1986, in Dallas, Texas. They resided in Douglas.
Mr. Dey retired from Kerr McGee where he worked as a heavy equipment operator in the coal and uranium mines. He also worked many years in road construction.
Mr. Dey was a lifetime member of the American Legion and was active in the VFW in Douglas. He raised horses for many years and enjoyed riding and attending rodeos. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends.
Grateful for sharing his life are his wife, Mona Dey, of Douglas; children Nancy and Lou Gehrig of Cheyenne, Deb and Jim Geiger of Belle Fourche, S.D., and Glen and Lois Shinkle of Thermopolis; seven grandchildren; brothers Jake Dey of Medicine Bow and Bob Dey of Wheatland; sisters Clarice Geiger of New Mexico and Donna Garvey of Wisconsin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Dey was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were held April 9 at the Oregon Trail Veterans Cemetery in Evansville.
Memorials in his name may be made to the American Cancer Society, the VFW and the American Legion.
Arrangements were under the direction of Kline-Frost Funeral Chapel of Belle Fourche and Bustards Funeral Home of Casper.
