Unknown - April 30, 1964Ross Ellis Barnes was born in Sibley, Iowa February 10, 1895, and in 1904 came to Wyoming with his parents who settled in south of Lusk.
He passed away at his ranch home April 21 from an apparent heart attack after being ill for only one day. Funeral services were held at the Congregational Church April 25 and burial was in Douglas Park Cemetery.
Before WWI, Mr. Barnes took up a homestead in the Walker Creek community. After serving in the war, he re--early-day roundups for the Tom Bell Cattle Company and was a well-known cowboy throughout the entire area.
On April 10, 1921 he was married to Phoebe Shrader in Casper.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge, and was a life member of the Wyoming Pioneer Association.
Besides his wife, Phoebe, he is survived by a daughter, Irene Wallis and her husband Bob; four grandchildren, Richard, Bonnie, Robert, Alden, and Matilda Louise, all of the family ranch.
Pallbearers were Jack Downs, Lee Moore, David Thomson, George Reihle, Chester Lane, and Paul Wilkenson. Honorary pallbearers were John Downs, Zip Thomson, Ray Baughn, Bill Nuttall, Elmer Cowell, Jim Birdsall, Roy Turnbull and Roy Jarmon.
