Services for Earl Banks Held
Unknown - February 12, 1953Last rites for W.Earl Banks, about 55, native of Sundance and a long-time state employee, were held Tuesday afternoon at St. Mark's Episcopal church in Cheyenne, with Rev. C.A. Bennett officiating. Burial was in Beth El cemetery. Mr. Banks died Sunday at a Cheyenne hospital following an operation.
Survivors include his wife, Katheryn, formerly of Douglas; a son, Lt. Wm. O. Banks of the air force; a daughter, Jean,of Cheyenne; three step-children,, Sally, Billy and John Shaffer of the family home; a brother, Clyde, of Spearfish, S.D., and a sister, Mrs. Raymond Vines of Sundance.
Mr. Banks had been employed as an examiner by the state examiner's office for a number of years and was well known throughout the state. He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal church, the Masonic lodge, Eastern Star, Shrine and Elks.
Active pallbearers were former Governor Nels Smith, Roger Thomas, Edwin Rounds and Ed Mathews, all of Sundance, and Judge H.P Ilsley, Norris Hartwell, Sterling Case and Joe Heslep of Cheyenne. Honorary pallbearers included Gov. Rogers and other state officials.
