SAM BALLARD DIES AFTER OPERATION

Was Resident of Douglas Nearly Forty Years

Samuel A. Ballard, II aged 58 years, died in Memorial hospital in Casper Monday, following an operation. He was taken to Casper Saturday and was operated on Monday, but was unable to rally from the operation.

Samuel Ausborn Ballard II was born at Stansbury, Mo., June 24, 1878, son of Samuel Ausborn and Elizabeth Ballard. When a child he was taken by his parents to what is now the present site of Chardon, Neb. He came to Douglas 38 years ago and this had been his home until his death. He was married here in 1902 to Miss Ida Brandon.

Sam Ballard was a quiet, industrious man, a good citizen. A friendly man, he had a host of friends who deeply regret his passing.

He is survived by his widow, a daughter, Mrs. Clarence Clark and two sons, Sam and Ralph Ballard; six sisters, Mrs. Roy Brenning and Mrs. Emma Murray of Douglas, Mrs. Minnie O'Connor of Hollywood, Calif., Mrs. Ella Stickney of Springfield, Vt., Mrs. Grace Gillies of Eaton, Colo., and Mrs. Jessie Beard of Chicago. He is also survived by his father, a veteran of the Civil War, and six grandchildren.

Funeral services were held this afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Baptist church, conducted by Rev. J.M. Falconer. Burial was in Douglas cemetery.
