Douglas Budget - June 9, 1938Mrs. S.A. Ballard died at the Douglas hospital Tuesday afternoon following a period of several weeks illness. Last Friday she submitted to an operation from which she failed to rally.
Mrs. Ballard was born Ida Jane Ward at Houston, Mo., January 13, 1881. At a tender age her father died and following the death of her mother in 1897 she came to Douglas. In 1902 she was united in Marriage to Samuel A. Ballard, who passed away several years ago. To this union six children were born, Ethel, Nellie, Samuel, George, Leslie and Ralph, three of whom preceded her in death.
She had been a long-time member of the local Baptist church. She was affiliated with the Rebekah and Royal Neighbor organizations.
Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Ethel Clark, two sons, Samuel and Ralph, all of Douglas, a half brother, Wm. O. Justice of San Francisco. Another half brother, James Justice, preceded her in death.
Funeral services are being held this afternoon at 2:30 from the Baptist church, Rev. J.M. Falconer in charge. Burial will be in Douglas cemetery.
