Funeral Held Monday For Sam A.
Unknown - December 24, 1953Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2:30 at Stark's chapel for Samuel A. Ballard, 45, native son of Douglas, who died Saturday at Memorial hospital. Rev. Willis Hankey of the Assembly of God church officiated and burial was in Douglas Park cemetery.
Mr. Ballard had not been in good health for several years but his death came suddenly and as a shock to his family and friends. He entered the hospital for treatment only the day previous to his death.
Samuel Ausborn Ballard III was born in Douglas March 31, 1908, the son of Ida and Samuel A. Ballard II. He grew to manhood here and graduated from the local high school. On Aug. 20, 1932, he was united in marriage with Mabel E. Gitthens, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Samuel A. IV, a student at the University of Wyoming, Monte, a student at Denver University, and Wally, who travels for a magazine agency; one daughter, Barbara of the family home; one sister, Mrs. Clarence Clark of Douglas, and a brother, Ralph, of Colorado Springs, Colo. All of the children and his brother were here to attend the funeral.
Mr. Ballard served in the armed forces for three years during World War II. Following his discharge from service, he became associated with the post office department by whom he was employed at the time of his death.
Pallbearers were Pete Curtin, Forrest West, Burl Jones, Emmett Carver, Clarence Slonaker and Walter Murphy.
