Unknown - February 1, 1973Funeral services for former Douglas resident, Mrs. Bessie Miller Baker, were held Saturday, January 27 at the United Church of Christ, Congregational, with the Rev. Howard Hall officiating. Mrs. Baker died January 23 in Jerome, Idaho following a lengthy illness.
She was born November 22, 1904 in McLean, Nebraska to Henry and Sena Russ.
A resident of this area for over 30 years. Mrs. Baker came to Wyoming in 1922 and taught school in the Dull Center area. She married Paul H. Miller in 1923, in Douglas. The couple made their home on a ranch in Converse County where they raised their eight children.
She had resided in Idaho since the time of her marriage to Harold Baker on August 19, 1955, in Idaho Falls.
Mrs. Baker was a member of the Congregational Church and the Rebekah Lodge.
She is survived by her husband; four daughters, Betty Putnam of Douglas, Mary Jane Reed and Joan Reed, both of Casper, and Karen Huesey of Fort Worth, Texas; three sons, Max Miller of Douglas, Billy E. Miller of Guernsey, and Raymond Miller of Casper; and four step-sons, Gene Baker of Amarillo, Texas, and Ronald Baker, Joe Baker and Bob Baker, all of Denver.
Other survivors include a sister, Mrs. Ray Medcalf of Alliance, Nebraska; 22 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several neices and nephews. One son, Paul R. Miller, and a step-daughter, Margie Trimble, preceded her in death.
Pallbearers were six of Mrs. Baker's grandsons-Robert Reed, Stanley Reed and Dana Reed, all of Casper, Dennis Miller of Guernsey, Paul Miller of Douglas, and Raymond Miller, Jr. of San Diego, California.
Burial was in Douglas Park Cemetery.
