Barrett, Myrtle Neal (Neal) (February 25, 1888 - July 29, 1972)
Unknown - August 3, 1972Funeral Services for Myrtle N. Barrett, longtime Douglas resident, were held Tuesday, August 1 at Start-Lapham Chapel, with the Rev. Clyde Thompson officiating. Mrs. Barrett, a resident at Michael Manor for the past several years, died Saturday, July 29 following a lengthy illness.
Myrtle Neal Barrett was born February 25, 1888 at Wisner, Nebraska, to Stephen R. and Isabella Haugen Neal. She married Nate Barrett, December 26, 1912 at Surprise, Nebraska, her girlhood home.
A resident of Douglas for the past 55 years, Mrs. Barrett was a 66-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, Grand Chapter of Wyoming, having received her 50-year certificate August 30, 1956. She was a past worthy matron of Woodbine Chapter No. 18, Douglas.
Mrs. Barrett was an accomplished artist at needlework, and won many ribbons on her State Fair exhibits. Several of her framed needlepoint pictures hang at Michael Manor, where they are enjoyed by both residents and visitors.
Survivors include a son, Gordon N. Barrett, Casper; a brother, Stephen R. Neal, San Antonio, Texas; and two grandchildren, Tom Barrett of Casper and Mrs. Bertha Ray Rippetoe of Burley, Idaho. Her husband and a son, Russell, preceded her in death.
Pallbearers were Harold Gillespie, Bob Gentle, Maurice Good and Tom Barrett.
Burial was in Douglas Park Cemetery.
