week for Mrs. Gertrude Brewer
Douglas Budget - September 22, 1977Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 15, 1977, at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church in Glendo for Gertrude Elizabeth Brewer, 92. Officiant was Father Stan Ver Straton, and burial was at the Horseshoe Cemetery at Glendo.
Mrs. Brewer died at her home in Glendo on Monday, September 12. Gertrude Darnold was born Sept. 21, 1884 at Villisca, Iowa, where she was raised. As a young woman she traveled to California, where she married Ivis Brewer in Pasadena, on Nov. 22, 1909. the couple lived in California eight years, then moved to Indiana. Brewer was employed by the C.B.& Q. Railroad in 1918, and did maintenance work at various locations until retirement. He was transferred to Glendo in 1935.
Mrs. Brewer was a member of the John Prince American Legion Auxillary, the Glendo Community Benefit Club, St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church, and Episcopal Church Guild. She served many years as Treasurer of the Sunday School for her church. Besides her interest in gardening and house plants, Mrs. Brewer turned out quantities of handiwork with needle and crochet hook.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. E. (Florence) Manton of New York City, N.Y., and Mrs. George (Serena) Cundall of Glendo; one brother, Dewey Darnold of Iowa; five grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1970, and by one son, Harold Dale Brewer, who died in France while serving his country in WWII; also by four sisters and one brother.
Pallbearers were Clyde Cundall, Jim Wilson, Bill Trenholm, Jim Hughes, Lloyd Hughes, and Loyle Millikin.
A memorial has been established to the Crippled Children Society of Wyoming. Schrader-Prell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
