Funeral Yesterday For Thos. Burk
Douglas Budget - August 13, 1953Last rites were held yesterday for Thomas Samuel Burk, 77, resident of this community for 35 years, who died Monday noon at Converse Memorial hospital. Rev. Clyde Thompson of the First Baptist church officiated at the services which were held at Stark's chapel, and burial was in Douglas Park cemetery.
Mr. Burk had been in ill health for some time and was recently dismissed from the hospital. It was believed his condition was getting better but he took a sudden turn for the worse last week and was again admitted to the hospital.
Mr. Burk was born June 18, 1876, is (sic)Harrison county, Mo. He moved to Iowa when a young man and there he met and wed Mary Catherine Wooten on May 2, 1900. The couple celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary on May 2 of this year.
The Burks moved to central Wyoming about 35 years ago, taking up a homestead in the Dry Creek community. He was engaged in ranching and farming until illness forced him to retire.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Baker of Douglas and Mrs. Mary Vanderwerker of Bandon, Ore.; one son, Paul T. Burk of Douglas; 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. A son and a daughter preceded him in death.
Pallbearers were Bert Inabnit, Gerald Sullivan, Robt. Hall, Clyde Reeves, Byron Wollen and George Mathews.
