Unknown - September 19, 1957Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at 2:30 at the First Congregational church for Dick Burks, 76, who died Sept. 12 at Memorial hospital after an illness of only a few days. The Rev. Peter R. Sherman officiated and interment was in Douglas Park cemetery.
Mr. Burks was born December 19, 1880, at Rockville, Ind. He came to Wyoming 50 years ago and for several years worked as a cowboy for several outfits. He then entered the ranching business for himself and was engaged in farming and ranching until his death.
A few years after coming to Wyoming, he was united in marriage with Miss Ida Slichter, daughter of a pioneer family. To this union, three children were born, two of whom survive.
Mr. Burks became a member of the Congregational church early in life. He was also a member of the Odd Fellows lodge in Indiana.
Survivors are one son, Richard Burks of Douglas; a daughter, Mrs. Lawrence Philbrick of Douglas; three brothers, Ed of Rockville, Ind.; Frank of Peoria, Ill., and Claude of Mishawaka, Ind.; and one sister, Mrs. Claude Hampton of Frankfort, Ind. His wife and one child preceded him in death.
