RITES HELD ON MONDAY FOR

MRS. IDA BURKS

Unknown - January 30, 1947

The Congregational church was the scene of the funeral held Monday afternoon for Mrs. Ida Burks, 86, Converse county resident who passed away Thursday night at the Memorial hospital after an illness of some months.

Ida Elizabeth Slichter was the daughter of John and Sarah Slichter, being born Dec. 9, 1879,, at Creston, Ia. Moving to Wyoming in 1884 with her parents, they settled about 15 miles west of Douglas along the Platte river. The rest of her life was spent there and in the LaPrele community.

On June 5, 1912, she was united in marriage with John Richard Burks. Three children were born to this union, including Mrs. Beatrice Philbrick of Glenrock, Richard J. Burks of Douglas and Sarah Cynthia, who died in infancy.

Active in all community matters, Mrs. Burks was revered and respected by all who knew her. She was one of the few remaining pioneers of central Wyoming, having made the long trip here via covered wagon, at a time when those journeys were the main means of transportation to the west.

Survivors include her husband and two children; a sister, Mrs. Mary Reynolds of Douglas; two brothers, Jess and Charles Slichter, both of Douglas; two aunts; two grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Rev. Louis Gale was in charge of the services, with interment in Douglas Park cemetery. Hofmann Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
