Douglas Budget - October 31, 1985Services for Joe Gatewood Burney, 61, who died in Saratoga, Oct. 26, were held at the Schrader-Prell Funeral Chapel Wednesday with Dan Barcus officiating.
Mr. Burney was born March 23, 1924, in New Raymer, Colo., the son of George and Grace Burney. He spent his childhood and received his education in New Raymer. Upon completion of school he joined the Marine Corps. After being discharged from the Marines he moved to Harris Park where he ranched and operated a saw mill. He and Mary Lee Thompson were married in Wheatland, May 12, 1946. In 1955 he went to work for the U.S. Forest Service, retiring in 1984. He spent his retirement in Wheatland.
He was a member of the American Legion and the National Rifle Association.
Besides his wife, Mary Lee of Wheatland, he is survived by three daughters; Linda Lake and Connie Hopper, both of Gillette, Carol Borgad of Blackwell, Oklahoma; one sister, Norma Hunter of Littleton, Colo. and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Ann, and two brothers.

Burial was in the Wheatland Cemetery.
